This
exterior mural features the school's mascot (a child magician),
five 10 to 50 foot waves containing words expressing human
values (love, peace, truth, right action, non-violence ect.),
colorful flowers, playful children, green hills, butterflies,
a ladybug, birds, a sunning lizard, and clouds against a blue
sky.
Working with 300 students, ages 6-13, over a series of 16 Friday
workshops was an amazing experience for me. The classes rotated
throughout the day and the children worked on pre-cut sections
of the mural. This was accompanied and followed by a series of
Saturday/Sunday workdays with community volunteers during
nipping sessions and direct installation. Funded by a
Neighborhood Matching Fund, Los Angeles. The Whole project took
approximately 10 months to complete. |
